Romans 1:20

I sent the below message from my phone in the middle of church -- posted it directly via email to Blogger. I was struck by the passage and wanted to remember to think about it later. I guess it worked, 'cuz here I am.

You can follow the link to YouVersion (a cool website worth some investigation if you've not been there before) or you can read the NIV translation of the passage here:

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

When I've read that before, I was too busy looking at the fact that people who don't know God don't have an excuse for their ignorance -- it was a weapon I could use to whomp those who were far from God over the head in case they got unruly. I'm not sure I actually did a lot of head-whomping, but I thought about it.

Today I heard that God's character is made visible in creation. I've know that, but I'm hearing it new. Joel Hunter gave us homework for the week -- to take the time to not only see God in creation every day this week, but to name it out loud.

I'm planning to do that; I may even do it in the blog.

  2. I love it when we are struck by something new in the bible - we may have read it many times, but suddenly it hits home.
